Man - social animal.

What does one waft when faced with such a simile, simple, man cohabitation in an environment surrounded with people, providing an ecosystem of thriving and a sense of belongingness. Sounds a complex definition isn’t it, but evolving through we have taken some things as granted like water and air; they are always there.

But what does man gain when he becomes a part of a society; ofcourse daily needs, a satisfaction of cohabitation and last but not the least his/her chance to converse and interact. But the word spans a much bigger back drop, our society evolved because of a mélange of intricate activities which keeps this ecosystem alive. I guess I have been using too many gibberish word so I step down and explain :).

Recently our company celebrated charity week, which targets at fund raising through various activities all around the week, ours is a strong company of four thousand plus, still the people contributing regularly falls much less; which I think is the general situation in all such parallel places. We sometimes fail to acknowledge that we are blessed with a more than well to do life with almost all the basic amenities. And maybe parting a meager amount may not be even noticeable but on the other side, does make quite a difference. We are always thinking maybe the other guy is, then why bother, makes me always remember of the village who promised to fill in a pond with a bucket of water from each house but failed because everyone thought the other already had, and nobody did!!

Small things, but isn’t life made of smaller moments? Anyhow, at the end of the week we had a small event with children from these places joined us in celebration, and it felt an exhilarating experience seeing these faces smile, and wondering when was it that they smiled last. Charity Week These children belonged to single parents unable to have a living, some are orphans while some have their parents undergoing trial which may well last more than ten years. Theirs is certainly not a simple life and compared to that what we offer our children or those offered by our parents was a breeze. Many of the volunteers try to spend their weekends among them sharing in a laugh and a talk. I guess we owe our society that much maybe our time is too costly but I guess the money in charity can surely help; too bad I cant mail it where its needed, its more like preaching. Now I know why we have temples and churches.

I hope we do carry our bucket of water through.

Daily humm drummm --------

You are right about each one doing our bit for the less fortunate. We have a small tradition, each year after thanksgiving and before christmas hubby and I identify a charity and give some money...it's the least we can do and usually it is not a whole lot but we realise that even that li'l something can go a long way. I usually tyr and support women and children's causes...aren't they still the msot vulnerable?

@Orchid: Touch wood for your tradition; hope it lives on to your children.

@Me: You bet.
